My thoughts are like a horsefly
Short lived and scattered
Incessantly searching for an open window
or docile host
to satiate for one meal time
the needling hunger in my tiny gut
Disinterested in petty crumbs
Full of nectar, out for blood
Feasting on my warmth and movement
amused at my dread
of their violent sting
when my thumb is far bigger than their wingspan
I cannot catch them when they land on the mirror
they are quicker
than my sober self-reflections
They seem lost but with primal direction
This year I’m on a quest to try and support myself more through my music and writing in the hopes that I can dedicate more time to both. In light of this, I have switched on a paid subscription to this blog which you can sign up to below if you would like to, and are able to, support me on the slightly mad mission to being a full-time artist. Thank you for being here.

No Straight Road Takes You There - Rebecca Solnit
New essay collection (Essays for uneven terrain) from one of my favourite writers covering many of the daunting topics of our time: climate grief, democratic decline and toxic masculinity. She is one of the few people who successfully amalgamates anger, pragmatism and genuine hope in her writing and each essay focusses on a little fragment of person or place in the wider context (My favourites were about violins, nazis and fairytales).
